What is it about gratitude? I’m not talking about the courtesy “thank you” you offer when someone holds the door open for you. Or, the casual “thanks” when someone hands you the ketchup from the other side of the table. I’m not even referring to the cursory “thanks, you too” when someone offers, “have a great day.”
I’m talking about the sincere gratitude for simple things like breathing, light, smiles, or opening your eyes. Studies have shown, for a very long time, how gratitude affects us. In fact, gratitude is shown to have a great effect on productivity and workplace achievement. Researchers have developed tools to measure gratitude and how it shows up in life results.
While this isn’t a psychological study, I do believe in the practice of gratitude and being intentional about it. As a part of my morning routine, I have a planner where I write at least 5 things for which I’m grateful daily. If I accomplish nothing else that day, I can be grateful because, truthfully, it’s not that hard. I’ll repeat that. It’s not hard to CHOOSE gratefulness.
