My first coach told me “leaders are readers.”

Or was it “readers are leaders?”

He just wanted me to read more. I read, but I didn’t read books much anymore. I read articles, and I read current events. I was up to date on the latest tech and what was happening in pop culture. But, I wasn’t reading to challenge my thought process. I wasn’t ingesting fully developed material that would also inform my own personal development.

So, he helped me start on a journey that continues until now. I read books, but I also learn from other influencers and their blogs.

Here are five blogs I read regularly and you should too:

Michael Hyatt — I’ve been following Michael for about 6 years and have seen the changes in his blog content as well as the remarkable value he offers to those seeking to build a platform. The hallmark of his blog, for me, is consistency. He consistently encourages others to build blogs and use their best energy to live intentionally. His book, Living Forward, is one to re-read.

Darren Hardy — I signed up for Darren Daily a couple of years ago and love watching how Darren pulls ideas together. He is the founder of Success Magazine but doesn’t just talk the talk. He walks the walk. OK, maybe I have a slight man-crush but I love that his suits always seem to fit well and his presence indicates confidence. Up your confidence level by following Darren and receiving his insights.

Paul Sohn — You want to talk about leadership? Paul is your guy. He will talk to you for hours on the idea of becoming a leader worth following. He just formed a new company, QARA, which focuses on life-calling and leadership for millenials. His blog is amazingly consistent and you will always find great value there.

Yann Girard — I’ve been on Medium for a couple of years but just started to take the platform seriously in September of 2016. Yann was one of the writers I found who I enjoyed simply because of his straight forward authenticity. I read not just for information. I also study the writing styles of the bloggers there and really enjoy his short, pithy approach to idea development. Put in two simple words…he’s real!

Todd BrisonTodd Brison is also one of the writers I met on Medium. I not only met him via his articles, I met him and spoke with him. This happened because of a response I made and Todd’s subsequent video thank you. It hadn’t occurred to me the impact a video response could make. So, I am now a faithful reader of Todd’s articles and love seeing his ideas in print.
