Even Perfectionists Are Never Perfect
“You don’t have to be perfect…just persistent.” — RK3
It’s rare that I quote myself. But, I was going back through some old articles and came across this. I was in the midst of writing my book, 28 Days To A New Me and talking about the internal battle for perfection.
We all have moments of over-analysis and doubt. We’ve all experienced the feeling of fear and the period of wondering whether we are ready to face the challenge.
Recently, an audience member from one of my talks asked me about getting OVER the fear of public speaking. I responded, “You never really do. You just learn what to do with the feeling.” I’ve messed up enough to know that there are some things you just can’t control. If you continue to worry about being embarrassed or doing things incorrectly, then you will paralyze yourself.
You must reach the point where you fail and then simply learn to get back up again. Every one of us fails. Every one of us fails because of our own errors, and sometimes it happens because of things beyond our control. So, the idea that you can hold back until things are perfect is flawed.
Flaws are everywhere, and you are not the only one who has them. As a matter of fact, when you fix one, others will pop up. Perfection? Out of your control. But, persistence? That’s something you can step into all day.
To achieve success, you don’t have to be perfect…just persistent.
