Focus On Why
Day 2
I used to watch the Flintstones when I was a child and every so often there was a scene where Fred would go to work. For some reason, I noted the way the workers would drive in, almost robotically, then punch their clocks when the bird screamed at the end of the day.
Another similar cartoon was The Jetsons. George went in to work and people filed in to their offices on time until the end of their shifts, then they filed out.
Oddly enough, when I grew up, I saw the same behavior. People filing up and down the streets of Manhattan moving on to their next pit stop.
The expectation in society is that this behavior continues until the randomly selected age of 65. But, more and more, I hear a very important question being asked. Why! Why am I doing this? Why am I not happy at this? Many don’t change the behavior but the question remains. Why?
The more you begin to ponder your dream, the more you inspect your actions as they relate to that dream. You begin to wonder if what you are up to really makes a difference. You begin to wonder if it matters. Brendon Burchard refers to the three questions everyone asks at the end of life:
“Did I live?”
“Did I love?”
“Did I matter?”
Those are just another way of asking the question, “Why do I do what I do?”
Day 2 Prompt: Why is your dream important to you?
When you understand why, it becomes so much easier to put implement meaningful action. Step back to figure out what drives you. What is the real reason you continue to act daily? Are you acting because of a deep driving desire or is it simply out of routine? Or worse, is it only because of fear? WHY do you do what you do every day?
