Here’s Why Motivation Doesn’t Lead To Success.

Motivation and inspiration don’t lead to success! Yes, you read that correctly. I was having a conversation recently with a family member. She expressed how “de-motivated” she felt. She wasn’t depressed. But, she just didn’t feel like she was motivated to do anything specific. She was looking for a certain excitement in her life and it just wouldn’t come.

She is not alone in feeling this way. Many people sit waiting for motivation and inspiration to come. But, according to Jeff Haden, author of The Motivation Myth,

“only in rare cases do incredibly successful people suddenly find their passion and life’s purpose. Most of them develop their passions and interests slowly, over time, simply by trying something, wanting to get better at, and getting daily doses of motivation through enjoying small successes.”

So, the precursors to success are choice and consistency. It begins with making a decision and repeatedly following through on that decision over time.

In fact, here are 7 quotes to help make this clearer:

1. “Desire is the key to motivation, but it is determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal — a commitment to excellence — that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” — Mario Andretti
