How You Wish It Could Be

I went to the gym after having fallen off the wagon for about 3 years. It was a little nerve racking at first but then after 30 minutes, I started to see the muscles start to pop back into place. Before I knew what was happening, people began wandering from all areas of the gym to see this amazing transformation taking place right before their eyes.

The phone rang. Upon answering it, the voice on the other line said, “Mr. Kennedy, you have two accounts in overdraft and they need to be rectified immediately.” I went to the basement and slowly went through my spreadsheet. The accounts hadn’t been reconciled in months and the budget was totally out of whack. I called the bank back and said, “Hey, can you just put $1 million in there for me and I’ll pay it back whenever I feel like it?”

The voice on the other end of the line said, “Oh sure, no worries. Anytime! We’re just glad you answered the phone.”

The sunlight warmed my face as my body rolled across the king size toward the window. The ticking of the clock seemed louder than normal. My eyes fell on the calendar which hung about 20 feet away. It was Thursday. Oh no! I jumped up. I’d missed the last 3 days of work. Hmm.

I hopped on the phone and dialed my VP.

“Hey, Jerry. Listen, I’ve had a bad case of the oversleeps. Can I come in tomorrow to catch up a bit? OK, great. Also, can you shift my 4 projects over to Jim? He should be able to finish them up pretty quickly after his 6 are complete. Yep. Sure. Thanks. Actually, you know what? Let me just come in on Monday so we can start fresh. How does that sound? Oh cool. Great. You’re the best bro!”

Aaaaand SCENE!

Life is great. But, it actually involves persistence, consistence, insistence and hard work.

The hard work makes you better.

It doesn’t feel good at first. But, if you embrace it, you begin to realize it’s value.

It separates you from those who don’t really want it. It separates you from the quitters. It separates you from the blamers and the whiners.

Hard work grows your muscles.

The right hard work grows your bank account.

You thrive because you are willing to work hard.

You get to relax sometimes. But don’t be scared of putting in the work. It’s better that way.
