Hugging The Moments
I stopped myself because I was worried I didn’t have enough to say.
I blocked myself because I was worried no one would read it.
I created walls because I convinced myself it was a waste of time.
I told myself it wasn’t worth it.
The rules in my head weren’t real.
I don’t have to fit into someone else’s perception of what a real article is.
I can write what I want, how I want to write it. I can even experiment if I choose.
Some will appreciate it and some won’t.
The point isn’t about getting it right every single time.
It’s about consistent effort and practicing in public. It may not be as public if no one reads it. But who cares. I don’t do it for the accolades or for the affirmation. I’m doing it because I see the future and it’s very different than today.
I’ll look back and see these moments. They feel odd now but I’ll recognize them for what they were…the building blocks of those success moments. That’s what they are…moments.
Life isn’t static. It’s a string of moments cobbled together. You get to choose the ones you’ll hug longer. Some people hug the frown moments. Some people hug the smile moments. Still others hug the danger moments while some cling to the safe moments. Others attempt to hug all of them and find their arms aren’t wide enough. But maybe it’s worth a shot. Embracing it all with and accepting them as the journey.
So, in this moment, I’m writing words, carefree and hugging them.
