Stop Feeling Guilty

I haven’t written in more than a month. At first, I felt like I was falling off track. It felt like I was abandoning the momentum I’d worked so hard to build. Here I was, reading about the other people who starting writing one day in 2013 and haven’t stopped since.

I ran 30 day writing challenges, 12 week writing stints and video challenges. I created a blogging course and set up a community for speakers and writers. I’ve been busy. But, I hadn’t been writing.

So now, I began to feel a bit guilty. Not too much…just a bit. I felt like I was gaining weight. You know, the feeling you feel when you fall off your gym workout program. Like, “oh oh, I’m off the wagon.”

Guilt, when it is dwelled on for too long, pulls you into a place of denying the things you could be celebrating!

But, that’s just the thing with guilt. It sucks you into a place that denies all of the things which you should be celebrating. The truth is I went on vacation with my family. I had to spend some time with them. I needed the time to relax and decompress without the pressure of a daily regimen. I wrote a couple of articles on vacation but not every day.

When I came back, I pushed back into my prep for some client workshops and then got ready for the National Speakers Association convention. It was my first one and I wanted to make the most of it.

These were celebrations! I was still moving.

But, the most important movement I could make was moving past the guilt. I had to stop playing that recording in my brain. I had to stop telling myself what I “should be doing” and celebrate the awesome things that were happening.

Guilt blinds you! Guilt lies to you! Guilt tells you that it’s all your fault. Should you always deny responsibility? Of course not. Sometimes, it IS your fault.

But, you weren’t meant to LIVE in guilt. It’s just a signal, a notification from the emotion department that something happened.

Notice it. Determine what action you might need to take. Then move.

Refuse to let it hold you hostage!

Give yourself permission to move!

Give yourself permission to grow!

Give yourself permission to be great!
