Talking To My Brother

If we were all intentional about how we communicated, the world would be a better place.

If we were less reckless with our words, life would be less stressful.

Instead of always trying to win or be one up, what if we simply connected?

Connection is critical. Communication is essential. Relationships are vital.

All of this is hard!

We don’t always make it easy to connect. We also take it for granted.

We carelessly toss around words, hoping for a momentary victory but neglecting long term effect.

Instead of looking to restore, repair and improve relationships, we curve into ourselves and seek to self-protect.

I get it. Vulnerability is hard. People use it against you because they themselves fear. We live in a world with a strike-first mentality. Eat or be eaten. It’s survival instinct…or so it seems. There is only one bowl and everyone is scrapping for it…or so it feels.

But we might do better if we shared the bowl while looking for more bowls together. Or, maybe we don’t need to look for bowls. Maybe our minds are brilliant enough to create something new. We do it all the time. Planes, trains and automobiles. Electric vehicles. Self-driving. Maybe there is a different way. But we’ll never find it if our focus is outfoxing each other.

What would it be like if we changed our perspective and envisioned everyone as part of our community? What if we saw everyone as a family member?

Maybe we would communicate differently because we would be talking to our brother.
