The World Is Conspiring Against You

It’s happened to you time and time again. You’ve said to yourself, “I’m going to be better.”

“I’m going to get back on the wagon.”

“I’m going to do that exercise program tomorrow morning.”

And you’re not lying to yourself. It really is your intention to get back on the wagon. But here’s what you may not know.

The world is conspiring against you.

Before you get upset, that’s actually a good thing. Let’s look at it another way. The world is testing you to see how bad you really want it. Just as you are about to go on that social media fast, your birthday comes and you feel pressed to respond to all of the wishes. Just when you are about to jump back on that exercise program, you feel achy and get a touch of the flu. The moment you decide to complete that book once and for all, your schedule get really busy. And it’s good busy. It’s the making-money kind of busy. But somehow, you are pulled away from the goal you had in mind.

The stuff that’s happening to you isn’t bad. It’s just somehow distracting you from the one thing you said you wanted to do. But then, the question becomes, how bad do you want it?

Are you willing to say NO?

Are you willing to stay up later?

Will you sacrifice that binge watch marathon for the last season of Game of Thrones?

Will you get up 20 minutes earlier?

Will you grab an accountability partner to keep you on track?

The world doesn’t hate you. But it also won’t cater to you simply because you think it or say it. Whatever you say you want, the world will test you to see if you are telling the truth.

And the truth means you will hold on to it no matter what hits you. The truth means you won’t give up no matter how hard it gets. The truth means you don’t lose focus no matter how many distractions get thrown at you.

We often connect success to time and it can feel like a failure if we don’t reach our goal in a preset time period. When this happens, many of us give up and turn in another direction. But this wasn’t about time. It was about how willing you were to stick with it even amidst the crazy.

So, don’t let the world beat you. It’s just doing its job. And it’s making you smarter, stronger, better if you will stick with the journey!
