What Did 2017 Teach You?
With every moment, every day, every month, every year comes a lesson.
Did you notice it? Or, did it pass you by?
Did you pay attention and smile, vowing to use it as a launch pad?
Or did you complain about how unfair your life is?
This year, I learned to scroll less. I noticed that as I scrolled, I saw complaints. I saw unproductive debates. I saw hypocrisy. I saw ignorance. I saw impulsive statements. I saw surprising apathy.
What I learned was that it affected me. Even as I put up walls of protection, each negative energy burst made a dent. Even if I wasn’t the intended target, the shrapnel didn’t care who or what it it.
I rationalized.
Oh, I don’t watch the news. I only read CNN as necessary. I’m shielding myself from the bad. Yet, with each scroll, I consumed more than I was aware of.
So, I’m learned to even more intentional with my time.
I deleted the app. And now, I press forward by leveraging help and other intentional moments.
Will I leave social media?
No, probably not. I’m just guarding access.
More lessons to come.
