You Only Have One Job As A Communicator
Most people just want to get the words out. They just want to speak. Just get through it…this is the message in their brains. Because of this message, what shows is discomfort, insecurity and a less than authentic presentation.
What if you only had one job on stage? What if you focused on doing just one thing? The truth is you DO only have one job. CONNECT. That’s it. People are listening because you have something important to say. Let them know you understand them. Let them know they are not alone in recognizing the problem or experiencing it. Find out how you can simultaneously speak and sit right beside them. THIS is your job!
How do you do this? I suggest the first step is figuring out empathy! You must understand people, their range of feelings and something in you which relates to those feelings to make a lasting impression.
I love the video by the Cleveland Clinic where there are thought bubbles over each person. It lets us know what each person is experiencing. Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDDWvj_q-o8
