Your Body Tells You
You know something is wrong before it’s wrong.
Your body tells you.
It may be a split-second before or it may be days or weeks before, but your body tells you.
You wake up and you feel foggy. You feel down. You just don’t feel like you’re at the top of your game. You feel sluggish. You feel stuck. You feel depleted. You feel like rushed. You feel haphazard and unclear. You may not even know how to label the feeling but you feel it.
Most of us ignore the feelings. In fact, we’ve gotten so used to ignoring our feelings that we are unclear what we are feeling.
We’ve gotten that way because we are taught to care about the feelings of others.
That’s not a bad thing. Acting on feelings always can get you in trouble sometimes. But, there is a difference between suppressing feelings and being aware, yet choosing not to act. Most of us suppress them.
Your body tells you it’s annoyed, so you suppress it and keep on pushing. Then you get a breakdown.
Your body tells you there’s tension between you and another person. You push it to the side, assuming it went away. But all it does is simmer underneath the surface.
Dale Peterson notes that up to 80% of the illnesses we face are rooted in some psychosomatic issue. This means the mental suppression eventually causes you to get sick.
So what do you do?
Listen.
Become more aware.
Make a plan to deal with your body and your feelings.
You may not experience a negative effect now. But, the consequences are under the surface somewhere.
Being powerful starts with being aware of what saps your power in the first place. Then, take action to deal with it.
By the way, I’m not a doctor. But, I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
