You’re Not Successful Because…

“…it was when I fell in the snow in front of everybody on that school trip.”

“…it was that time I was singing a solo, and my voice screeched in front of everyone.”

“…it was that time I got my test back, and it said 27% on it. OUCH!”

“…it was the time I rear ended that lady because I was a bit tired.”

Pulling up a list of failures is easy. Our world is built that way. Reality shows were popular because of negative drama. There are numerous Youtube channels and sites which are popular because of people’s failures. When you ask about mistakes, most people can spit out a long list fairly quickly.

But what about your successes? What are they? OK. Outside of the diplomas hanging on your wall, what is your greatest success? I’m about to say something unpopular. The easy answer is to say my husband, my wife, my kids, or my family. I say that also. I work hard every day as a leadership and communication speaker/trainer so my children can have a great life. But, that’s the easy answer. What is my greatest success? What is the thing I’ve worked really hard for that finally came to life? Can I get selfish for a minute?

I’ve done a lot of pretty neat things. My LinkedIn profile and my resume tells me that. I’ve started several businesses. I’ve completed a few degrees. I’ve taught amazing students who have accomplished great things. I’ve written three books and working on 4, 5, & 6 currently. I’ve written more than 200 songs. I’ve recorded a music project. I’ve done production on music projects. But, nothing I have done is accomplished on my own. I’ve been able to have 4 really great businesses because my wife supported me; because my parents encouraged me; because my mentors paved the way and gave me great food for thought; because my contractors and assistants did great work; because my family allowed me to explore. That’s it. There is a BECAUSE!

My greatest success is my ‘because.’ My ‘because’ are my people and choosing to access them and allow them to help me accomplish great things. We get so bought into the idea of individuality that we may push away the very people who can help us become greater.

Your success or your lack of it will always be about your ‘because’.
